Business Assembly

Businesses play an important role in driving sustainable urbanization. More than selling products and services, many businesses are increasingly aligning their mission towards a positive impact on society and in the environment. 

The Asia-Pacific Urban Forum Business Assembly seeks to communicate the commitments of the business community in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond in supporting measures to achieve the ambitions of the Sustainable Development Goals, and in particular Goal 11 – Make Cities Inclusive, Safe, Resilient and Sustainable. 

Additional outcomes of the Assembly will be to forge deeper ties among members of the business community that are committed to sustainable urban development and sustainable housing, and to engage corporate leaders in meaningful exchanges with other APUF constituencies.

Towards the end of the Assembly, a declaration will be drafted and agreed on by business leaders pertaining to their pledge to enhance affordable and sustainable solutions for housing and strengthen ties within and across the private sector.

The Business Assembly is co-organized by Habitat for Humanity and the UN Global Compact, who are joining forces to deliver a truly impactful day-long gathering.

Who should join?

Business leaders from Asia-Pacific are invited to take part in the Assembly. These can include regional corporate leaders, ESG experts, public sector decision-makers, sustainable urbanization practitioners, and entrepreneurs.

Grassroots

The Grassroots Assembly will be jointly organized by LUMANTI, Huairou Commission, FANSA and SDI.
Grassroots Assembly is an essential component of community empowerment. The assembly provides a platform for the members of the communities across the region to come together, share their experiences, discuss issues that are important to them and build solidarity and strengthen partnerships to find sustainable solutions.
Grassroots Assembly is a platform to make demands for the fulfillment of their rights and engagement in decision making processes. It will serve as a collective voice of the people and advocate for policy change and access to funding that benefits the poor and vulnerable communities in the region. This is an opportunity for building ties and relationships with the government officials and donors making impact towards positive and sustainable change.
Grassroots Assembly is a platform for governments and decision makers to listen and interact with the community leaders and understand the gaps in the policy and existing situation in the communities and explore the areas of collaboration in future. This is an opportunity for the concerned authorities to be accountable and responsive in meeting their commitments for inclusive city development and making communities resilient.

Local Governments

Local governments are vital urban actors and essential to the achievement of global agreements. The COVID-19 pandemic magnified local government role as frontliners in public service delivery being the closest level of government to the people. Recognizing local governments as key players in sustainable urbanization, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) provided space to organize a Local Government Assembly as part of the 8th Asia Pacific Urban Forum (APUF-8) hosted by Suwon City, Republic of Korea.
The Local Government Assembly is organized by the Asia-Pacific Local Government Coordinating Body (APLG). Established in 2018, the APLG is a regional coordination mechanism which aims to facilitate advocacy for local governments in the Asia-Pacific region.

Women Assembly

The Women’s Assembly aims to bring together the diverse representation of women and women’s groups across Asia and the Pacific in providing inputs and highlighting their priorities on the Forum’s theme "Reforging post-pandemic pathways to sustainable urban development in Asia and the Pacific".
Women played critical roles during the pandemic to sustain resilience at the family and community levels contributing to robust way of managing and addressing the challenges during those critical times. Women inputs, leaderships and roles in designing, developing and resourcing the post-pandemic pathways to sustainable urban development must be key in ensuring we do not business as usual, that policies and programs are to put gender equality and women’s empowerment at the center.
The Assembly will be a three-hour (3-hour) session, where inputs from online survey (undertaken a-month ahead of the in-person session) will be presented, discussed and actionable recommendation be made for inclusion in the High-level Dialogues.

Asia-Pacific Youth Assembly

The 2023 Asia-Pacific Youth Assembly, organized by Habitat for Humanity in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), aims to bring together young people to:
learn from experts on urbanization including housing craft concrete local projects on sustainable urban communities and housing,  and network among fellow youth from across the region.
It serves as a side event of the Ninth Asia-Pacific Housing Forum and one of the five assemblies of the Eighth Asia-Pacific Urban Forum, providing vast networking opportunities and significant platform for urban and housing discussions and solutions. Who should join?

Youth leaders in Asia-Pacific, 18-30 years old, who are interested to learn about urbanization and to champion solutions for affordable, adequate housing.

Youth Solutions Micro-Grant 2023

Young people are uniquely placed to become effective agents of change within their communities. Recognizing this potential, the Youth Solutions Micro-Grant will support the youth to start, replicate, or scale up their solutions to housing and urban challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.  
The Youth Solutions Micro-Grant is a key component to the Youth Assembly and will:
Harness youth solutions through mentorship from international experts to strengthen their ideas Provide seed funding of US$2,000 to five (5) youth solutions that promote a more innovative, inclusive, and collaborative housing ecosystem for sustainable urban development  
Invite 10 youth-led organizations to be part of the Youth Assembly Suwon, South Korea to network and showcase their solutions to actors in the housing and urban sectors across the Asia-Pacific region
